SATURDAY: SALT LAKE WATERWAY UNDERGOES CLEANSING

Honolulu, Hawaiʻi – One thousand Genki Balls will be tossed into the polluted Salt Lake waterway on Saturday, March 23. Senator Glenn Wakai (District 15, Kalihi-Salt Lake-Pearl City), Representative Linda Ichiyama (District 31, Fort Shafter Flats-Salt Lake-Pearl Harbor), and members of the Salt Lake Community will host its inaugural clean up effort.

This event is part of a series of ecological clean-up events in Salt Lake. Members of the community are invited to attend and help. Participants are asked to wear comfortable attire and close-toed shoes, and plastic gloves will be provided.

Two weeks ago, one hundred and thirty volunteers mixed and molded the tennis ball sized orbs. The spheres have proven to be helpful in the rejuvenation of the Ala Wai Canal. The Salt Lake waterway is the basin for city and Army runoff. The stagnant water has been a festering problem for decades.
