REPRESENTATIVES MATAYOSHI, KITAGAWA SPONSOR WINDWARD COMMUNITY GOING GREEN RECYCLING EVENT


Kāneʻohe, Hawaiʻi – On Saturday, July 1, Representatives Scot Z. Matayoshi and Lisa Kitagawa invite the public to participate in the Windward Community Going Green Recycling Event. The event is organized in collaboration with Going Green Recycling and Castle High School.


"Residents are invited to dispose of electronic waste and donate gently used items," said Representative Scot Z. Matayoshi (D-49, Kāneʻohe, Maunawili). "By providing a responsible avenue for residents to clear their homes of accumulated waste, especially e-waste, we can foster a more responsible and sustainable community. Let's keep toxic electronics out of our landfill and water supply."


"We are happy to announce the return of this event to our Windward coast and invite all residents to join us in making a positive impact by responsibly disposing of electronic waste and recyclables. We extend our gratitude to our dedicated community partners who are partnering with us in this important cause," said Representative Lisa Kitagawa (D-48 Ka‘a‘awa, Kahalu‘u, ‘Āhuimanu, He‘eia, Kāne‘ohe).


The following items will be accepted:


· Computers, printers, and scanners

· Television - 1 per car

· HI-5 beverage containers

· Batteries - auto and lead acid only

· Canned goods

· Gently used clothing

· Used eyeglasses and hearing aids

· Pet items including towels, blankets, and food

· Free towing of unwanted cars - call (808) 291-6151


Items that will not be accepted include metal, tires, paint, microwave ovens, cooking oil, motor oil, ink cartridges, toners, hazardous fluids, cardboard, paper, plastics, wood, and bulky items.



WHAT: Windward Community Going Green Recycling Event


WHEN: Saturday, July 1, 2023

9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.


Attendees are encouraged to arrive early as the line to drop off recyclables is anticipated to grow long. The event will end promptly at 11:00 a.m.


WHERE: Castle High School Auditorium Parking Lot
