Honolulu, Hawaiʻi – Representative Adrian K. Tam (D-24, Waikīkī) issued the following statement today in response to the Supreme Court's decision upholding Tennessee's ban on gender-affirming care for minors.
"During a time when uncertainty looms over our healthcare system due to federal actions that could affect millions of Americans, today’s Supreme Court decision is especially disheartening. It completely undermines the rights and well-being of Tennessee's transgender youth, and transgender youth across the country.
Gender-affirming healthcare is lifesaving. Treatments like puberty blockers are safe and fully reversible. This decision strips away the freedoms and protections that trans Americans deserve—especially during Pride Month, when we should be reaffirming, not abandoning, our commitment to the rights of the LGBTQ+ community."
