House Adjusts Opening Day Proceedings Due to Additional Security Threats

Honolulu, Hawaiʻi – Due to the recent circumstances in Washington, D.C. and security threats to states, additional security enhancements have been deployed to protect the State Capitol, House members, and staff. The State Capitol continues to be closed to the public.

"While we are hopeful that the people of Hawaiʻi will continue to express their views peacefully, it is important to protect the health and safety of our House members, staff, and the general public. Accordingly, we will be concentrating on critical business matters when we are convened in person in the House Chamber," said Speaker Scott K. Saiki.

The Hawaiʻi House of Representatives will convene on January 20, 2021 at 10 a.m. as required by the Hawaiʻi Constitution. Members will be sworn in and take action upon necessary measures. No entertainment or traditional speeches will be provided.

The Opening Day floor proceedings will be televised on Olelo channel 49 and live streamed on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvoLAX1ww3e63K8qQ5of0bw.
