LEGISLATORS' JOINT STATEMENT REGARDING MCKINLEY STUDENT TRAGEDY

Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi – Senator Sharon Y. Moriwaki, House Speaker Scott K. Saiki, and Representative Adrian K. Tam issued the following statement:

"Our condolences go out to the family of the McKinley High student who was involved in the collision at the Kapiʻolani - Kamakeʻe St. intersection. We spoke with McKinley Principal Ron Okamura, and he informed us that counseling sessions began for McKinley students today.

This is a tragic loss for our community. We will work with the city to assess improvements that can be made to increase the safety of this intersection for pedestrians and drivers. The area has become busier, and we should consider all options to improve safety. Please let us know if you have suggestions for improvements."
