Honolulu, Hawaiʻi – Members of the Hawaiʻi State Legislature today presented their annual donation to the YWCA O‘ahu ‘Dress For Success’ Program, which empowers women to enter or reenter the workforce while overcoming barriers such as poverty, homelessness, and incarceration.
This year’s clothing drive resulted in over ninety bags of professional attire including dresses, blazers, accessories, shoes, handbags, and brand-new undergarments. Donations came from state and city lawmakers, Capitol staffers, and community members.
The effort is part of an annual clothing drive organized by the Office of Representative Gregg Takayama (House District – 34 Pearl City, Waiau, Pacific Palisades) and the Office of Senator Joy A. San Buenaventura (Senate District 2 – Puna) to support YWCA Oʻahu’s mission of economic empowerment for women.
"Dress for Success has transformed the lives of countless women by helping them to build confidence and prepare for new job opportunities," said Representative Takayama. “Sometimes, all it takes is one outfit to help someone land a job and take that first step toward independence. We are grateful for the generosity and support shown by lawmakers, staff, and the community for this important cause."
“The YWCA’s Dress for Success initiative goes beyond just professional attire—it represents dignity, opportunity, and empowerment,” said Senator San Buenaventura. “When we invest in women, we invest in stronger families, stronger communities, and a stronger future. I’m proud to support the incredible work being done so that every woman has the tools, confidence, and support she needs to thrive in the workforce.”
